The Sandhills Chapter of SCORE was founded as the Sandhills SCORE Chapter, in July 1975. It was originally co-located with the Sandhills Area Chamber of Commerce in Harnett County, North Carolina. In 1980, the Sandhills Area Chamber re-organized as the Moore County Chamber of Commerce, and re-located to Moore County, NC and the SCORE Chapter moved with it. When the Chamber purchased their present location on US Highway 15-501 in Southern Pines, the SCORE chapter was once again invited to locate with them. This building now houses the Chamber of Commerce as well as the Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Sandhills SCORE Chapter.
The Sandhills SCORE Chapter is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501c4 organization, and one of over 320 chapters in SCORE, which is itself a nationwide nonprofit association, and a resource partner of the US Small Business Administration dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. SCORE is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and thanks to a network of 11,000+ volunteers, SCORE Chapters are able to deliver our counseling services and products at no charge.
Our chapter serves Moore, Lee, Harnett, Cumberland, Hoke, Robeson, Scotland, and Richmond counties. Our volunteers are reside in several of these counties to ensure responsiveness to local Small Businesses and entrepreneurs establishing new businesses. The chapter is located adjacent to Fort Bragg, and we are proud that a significant percentage of our client base are military, veterans, or their spouses. As Fort Bragg is a major installation of the Department of Defense, our counseling also focuses on startups of small businesses seeking to participate in government contracting.
